Hart WoodCrafts
Home of high quality, hand crafted writing instruments.
Hand crafted writing instruments are the pinnacle of writing pleasure. Each pen and pencil is individually hand turned from a wide variety of materials including wood, acrylic, corian, antler, bamboo and corncob. This makes each pen and pencil a truly unique one of kind treasure you will be proud to own. In addition to pens and pencils I also hand craft key chains and kaleidoscopes.

New Styles and Site Improvements

Sierra Elegant Beauty - This is new Sierra design with a new more elegant clip and engravings. It comes in two finishes Black Titanium / Platinum and Black Titanium / Gold Titanium.

Sierra Pencil - This pencil is designed to complement the Sierra Button Click pen and they make wonderful sets

Speaking of sets there is big improvement to the site. I have added a new feature that shows all of our pen and pencil sets. Now you can view the sets together and purchase items as a set. This comes at a great time as I have just added 27 new sets to the site.

American Chestnut

I recently managed to get my hands on some American Chestnut. Since some of you may not be familiar with the story behind this wood let me explain why this is such a big deal.

American Chestnut is a domestic hardwood in the oak family and at one time was one of the more common woods in the US and was very popular with the building industry. Many homes and barns in the U.S. were built from this wood during the 1700s and 1800s. In 1904 a blight showed up in New York probably introduced from some transplanted Asiatic Chestnut trees. This blight spread rapidly and killed off the vast majority of these trees (estimates run to 3 billion trees). In the present day the only place to get this wood is from lumber reclaimed from historic barns. You can find more information about the American Chestnut here. The wood I have acquired was reclaimed from a barn that was torn down in Mystic, CT that had been built in the 1830s.
